A Year in Writing

Welcome to my new blog!  I’m planning on a fun-filled and productive 2011, and starting the blog was my new year’s resolution.  I have a lot planned for 2011 but I figured it was time to reflect on the status of my 2010 writing life.  The following pretty great things happened in 2010:

1. My first novel, Grave Passage, won a Finalist medal in the Indie Excellence Awards, so now I have fancy gold stickers to put on the covers.  I got a little media coverage as a result, and sales spiked on Amazon and at The Avid Reader here in Sacramento.
2. My book on Maya archaeology, The Excavations of a Royal Residence: Group 10L-2, Copan, Honduras, was published by the Middle American Research Institute in New Orleans.
3. My story, Lady Anaconda, won first place in the 2010 Sacramento News & Review Flash Fiction contest.  Check it out: www.newsreview.com/sacramento/content?oid=1873390
4. My second novel, Mediterranean Grave, is in production and should be out in mid-January, in time for holidays such as President’s Day and Groundhog Day.

It’s been a good year, but I have a lot to work on.  My first projects for the new year – complete the second draft of Grave Indulgence and prep it for workshop, and put the final touches on American Caliphate, and see if I find a publisher.  I’ll keep you posted.  I hope you’ll check back in.
